This is the Telemetry Transportation Daily for September 5, 2025, and I'm Sam Abuelsamid, Vice President of Market Research for Telemetry.
Just ahead of next week's IAA Mobility Show in Munich, Germany, BMW has officially unveiled the first production model based on its new Neue Klasse electric vehicle architecture. The component set that makes up Neue Klasse will be finding its way into most of BMW's lineup over the next several years, but the first one to arrive is the new iX3. The compact X3 family is BMW's second-best-selling nameplate globally, with over 320,000 units in 2024. The iX3 marks the debut of a new design language for the brand that has been previewed on recent concepts, including the Vision Neue Klasse X from 2023. There's also an entirely new cabin design that includes a full-width heads-up display at the base of the windshield and the end of the long-running i-Drive rotary control knob for driver interaction.
More important is the underlying hardware, which starts with a zonal electronic architecture that helps reduce wiring weight by 30% and eliminates 2,000 ft of wiring. It also provides significantly more compute performance. It also has solid-state electronic fuses in place of traditional fuses to improve reliability and ease of service.
The new platform gets BMW's sixth-generation eDrive technology with even more efficient motors and 800V architecture. The battery now uses 46 mm cylindrical cells and supports charging at up 400-kW with BMW claiming the iX3 can add 230 miles of range in just 10 minutes with a 10-80% charge in 21 minutes while AC charging is supported at 11-kW. BMW claims the iX3 will deliver up to 400 miles of driving range based on the EPA test cycles.
Production of the iX3 for the US market will begin in the first quarter of 2026 at BMW's plant in Debrecen, Hungary, with deliveries starting in the middle of next year. Pricing will start at $60,000
