October 6, 2026 - Citroen Teases New 2CV
This is the Telemetry Transportation Daily for October 6, 2026, and I'm Sam Abuelsamid, Vice President of Market Research for Telemetry.
Back in May 2026, Stellantis hosted a capital markets day to lay out its revised global product plan under new CEO Antonio Filosa. Those of us who attended in person got to see a wide range of upcoming vehicles that will launch over the next several years for North America and the rest of the world. Stellantis is planning to reveal several new vehicles for the European market from Peugeot, Fiat, and Citroen next week at the Paris Motor Show. However, one of the most anticipated new models is a revival of the classic Citroen 2CV.
The original 2CV debuted in 1948 and was produced in various parts of the world until 1990. However, the car was originally conceived as a low-cost vehicle targeted at farmers and rural residents of France in the 1930s. Unfortunately, just before volume production was set to begin, World War II began. The 2CV was a distinct design with mostly flat steel body panels, a roll-up roof, and a unique torsion bar suspension that enabled good ride comfort over rough terrain and a lot of wheel travel, so it could be driven over fields.
The new 2CV design is heavily inspired by the original, although it now meets modern safety requirements, has LED lighting, and the old air-cooled two-cylinder boxer engine has been replaced by an electric motor and battery. The new 2CV is built on Stellantis' new e-Car platform that is targeted at low-cost EVs with a starting price of about €15,000. It's expected to use a lithium iron phosphate battery and technologies from China's Leapmotor. It's unlikely that the 2CV will ever be sold in North America, but it could be quite popular in Europe.
Thanks for listening.
