November 10, 2025 - Hyundai CEO Outlines Product Strategy

This is the Telemetry Transportation Daily for  November 10, 2025, and I'm Sam Abuelsamid, Vice President of Market Research for Telemetry.

As the Hyundai brand approaches its 40th anniversary in the U.S. market in 2026, CEO Jose Muñoz presented the company's strategic vision for the rest of the decade last week. As of 2025, the larger Hyundai Motor Group, which also includes the Genesis and Kia brands, has grown to become the third largest automotive group globally, hitting nearly 7 million sales in 2024 and trailing only Toyota and Volkswagen while surpassing the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance and Stellantis.

During a global town hall session that was live-streamed to employees, Muñoz reiterated a goal of achieving 5.55 million sales for Hyundai by 2030, an increase from 4.04 million in 2024, an increase of over 37%.  Of that total, Muñoz expects 60% or 3.3 million to have electrified powertrains. Like Toyota, Hyundai is taking a full spectrum approach to electrification with hybrid, plug-in hybrid, extended range EV, battery EV, and fuel cell EV variants. By 2030, Hyundai plans to have more than 18 hybrid models, with the first Genesis hybrids launching in 2026.

While the growth rate of battery EVs has cooled off in 2025, particularly in North America, the Korean automaker is pressing forward with new offerings, including more performance-oriented models. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N debuted in 2024, and the Ioniq 6 N sedan will go on sale in the coming months. After that, Genesis will launch the first of its performance variants, the GV60 Magma, in conjunction with the debut of Genesis Magma Racing in the hypercar category of the 2026 World Endurance Championship. Genesis will also get EREV models, probably by 2028.

Hyundai will soon have a new customer for its Georgia-produced Ioniq 5 as Waymo begins to add a version with its automated driving system to its robotaxi fleet. Motional, which is majority owned by Hyundai, also plans to launch a commercial robotaxi service in 2026 using the Ioniq 5. Having a diverse portfolio of propulsion options for every global market will be key to Hyundai achieving its very aggressive growth targets.

Thanks for listening.
