This is the Telemetry Transportation Daily for May 21, 2026, and I'm Sam Abuelsamid, Vice President of Market Research for Telemetry.
Stellantis is holding an investor day today at its North American headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan. While we're waiting for specifics on how the multi-brand automotive conglomerate plans to fix its business with a new strategic plan, Stellantis has already signed three new partnerships that it hopes will help.
First up is Leapmotor, a Chinese automaker that Stellantis has a 21% equity investment in. A new line will be added at the Zaragoza, Spain, assembly plant that has long produced Opel vehicles. The new capacity will be used to produce the Leapmotor B10 crossover and an Opel badged crossover based on the same architecture. Leapmotor and Stellantis have a joint venture that gives Stellantis exclusive rights to sell Leapmotor vehicles outside China. The new line in Spain is targeting a production start in 2028.
Stellantis and China's Dongfeng will also launch a new European Joint-venture. The new venture will be responsible for selling vehicles from Dongfeng's Voyah brand in Europe and for localizing production of plug-in vehicles developed by Dongfeng at the Stellantis plant in Rennes, France. Stellantis and Dongfeng are already collaborating on the production of Jeep and Peugeot vehicles in China.
Stellantis also signed a memorandum of understanding with Jaguar Land Rover to explore opportunities to collaborate on product development in the U.S. As a relatively small manufacturer, JLR could certainly benefit from areas like Stellantis purchasing scale to get better pricing from suppliers. It's not clear exactly what sort of products the two companies might work on, but some collaboration on SUVs between Jeep and Land Rover seems like a likely place to start. We'll have more to share tomorrow following the presentations.
Thanks for listening.
